need advice - speakers to buy

I would like my PC speakers to be small and attach to either side of a flat panel monitor. Having the speakers built into the monitor, as I understand some ViewSonic monitors to be, is great, but I dont want to pay a premium price and limit my choice of monitors.

The fidelity of the speakers is not very important.

I would also like to avoid the audio and power wiring of the speakers. Would be great if the speakers got their power from the PC somehow ( USB connected? )

Ideal is a flat panel monitor with some sort of attachment for speakers on the side of the monitor. Great would be the audio and power cables of the speakers connecting to the monitor.

Do such products exist?

thanks,

-Steve

There are a lot of reasonably priced LCD monitors with builtin speakers. You aren't really limiting yourself very much.

The speaker quality of every monitor w/built in speakers that I looked at on newegg is faulted by the reviewers.

Looking for speakers that can be mounted on the sides of the monitor.

You seem to be contradicting yourself here.

This is going to be a problem with ANY external speakers.

agreed. I would say my thinking is evolving Why should I have to settle for low fidelity because I want the speakers to be conveniently attached to the monitor?

So is audio quality important or not important?

Actually based on your criteria, you may find 1, maybe 2 speaker designs to fit your requirements. So I guess I've answered that question.

And for what it's worth, I've never seen LCD-mounted, USB speakers. I wish you luck in your search.

I found something that gets you as close to "no wires" as you can get - but it won't mount to the monitor. Take a look - it might be suitable. I can't vouch for the fidelity, but it's gotta be better than builtins. It looks VERY small - look at the pic with the USB cable in its stowage spot for a size reference.
