You can find a comprehensive list of Video Editing tools HERE. Search by the file type you're wanting to edit, and the list will show whether it's a freeware, shareware, or trial version. Links and tutorials are included.

If the format's in AVI-DV you can get Avid Free DV - but it will only edit AVI-DV files.

Otherwise there are little if any 'powerful' editors on the market that are freeware or even trialware. Premiere Pro has a free trial, but you can't save projects or export timelines. Same with Avid XpressDV and Xpress. Even trials of consumer oriented packages like Premiere Elements and Sony Vegas Movie Studio restrict the ability to save or export.

Oh by the way ...if this helps even more.....

I had installed the k lite codec pack for video and audio it came with a lot of stuff. Do you think some of these usless codecs that are running are jamming my computer and stuff? SHould i uninstall it and reinstall it with only the things i need?(If i remeber i had checked all the codecs wich i guess was the wrong thing to do).

I have never heard of it happening before but perhaps the klite codecs are the prob. Try uninstalling them and run movie maker or another program and see if that was it. I believe those are the latest NVidia drivers. Are you using a USB connection or DLInk\firewire for the camera?

Im using new usb for the camera straight to hard drive. I'll try uninstalling the codecs and see what happens.

Oh and also....Microsoft is not very smart... Everytime i install new video card drivers i have to reactivate and u have a limit. I know this gets people nervous Now how am i supposed to get a new serial number. I hope i dont gotta pay .. Again. I bought windows xp!!!

Do you have a firewire port on your pc? It si the prefered way for me. You can control the camera from the software within windows. That's assuming you get it working. I don't know why new video drivers would require an activitation. Youa re supposed to and are greatly encouraged to use the latest drivers for your hardware for best performance. I would contact MS on that one.

Uninstalling those codes did nothing at all. Also got latest drivers for video card. My asus dvd still jams, movie maker still crashes, computer still acts wierd with video files. WIndows media player cant play avi, only with codecs, and jam playing dvds like asus dvd player. This is really not normal and i need it fixed to use my editing skills. Should i ask someone i know to check it out or can i do this one on my own. Not sure???

I m running out of ideas. Have you run scans for viruses and trojans? Did it ever work before? You might try system restore.

The Ulead Video Studio trial is fullly functional and allows an unlimited number of project saves and DVD burns for 30 days. I have used it before, in a rush, to complete a project. I found it to be a decent program. It didn't crash and the results were exeptional.

I have tried scanning for viruses, adware, spyware and i got nothing at all. I even turned off system restore and scanned in safe mode. One weird thing when i was trying to scan in safe mode... My nortan antivurus did not open. Guess what.. IT CRASHED.. It only opens in normal mode.

No when i first made my computer it used to restart too sometimes when trying to play video files and jamm when trying dvd playing software, including window media player.

How can i restore my system? I got system restore on.

I have also updated my motherboard and nforce chip and no luck. Now i think we might have to go a little more technical. Hum.....

Now lemmy see if i can make it restart again and tell u what it says.

Ok the thanks a lot hi ho it works. I just got a question. Is there a way to add music in the background and make it fade in at low volume while the video is playing. Then i wanna make it get loud again, low, and at the end make it fade out and get lower and lower. Can u explain how i can do this because i cant figure it out.

Thanks

Sorry, I don't have it installed. I may be able to install it in a bit and mess around with it to see if I can answer your questions. I know it is possible, I just don't know the exact steps without looking at it firsthand.

The last time I used it was version 8 I believe. It may have even been version 7.

Spearball - there is a help file associated with that program as well as on-line usergroups and tutorials (google is your friend). Anything like that would be located in the help - the program can do what you'd like, but rather than someone else do the work for you, try finding the answers yourself.

Also, please use the Edit button instead of posting several replies back to back. That makes the thread too long and people are going to be less likely to want to help you if they have to read down through a bunch of one line posts.

Wow! You want it all in 5 mins. Not going to happen. The simplest program I have found is Pinnacle for what your trying to do. I could go into detail on just the few things you wrote here but this server probably would freez up. There is no easy or fast answer but to "just do it"... Pinnacle and Ulead are the ones you need. There are a few forums and such out there if ya wanna learn a little more on tricks and tips. Hope these help below. Scotty
