Trouble installing ATI HDTV Wonder
Installed latest drivers, 9-13, on my Dell Dimension 8300, 3ghz Pentium 4, 512 mb (I'm doubling this in a day or so) with Nvidia Geforce 5200, and HDTV picture reception is fine, but there's no sound. Volume control doesn't even show on lower right of control panel. When I play a music CD using ATI player it works fine, volume control and all. Sound card is a PREDATOR 5.1 DSP, Supports A3D, DirectSound3D and EAX, CMI 8738 LX/MX DSP
6-Channel DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter). It has complete Support for 4.1 and 5.1 speakers, and using MP10 or WinDVD DVDs play back correctly, both DD5.1 and DTS. The ATI technician I spoke to told me it must be installed correctly or I wouldn't get any reception, and could only suggest I switch my PCI cards to different slots. This didn't work. I tried installing WatchHDTV and got messages "Can't load ATI Video DEcoder" and "Can't build WatchHDTV graph". Maybe 30 times I've gone back to a Ghost image previous to installation, using the original CD and the 9-08 version as well. The sound sometimes worked and the whole thing crashed, crashing my computer as well, but the bottom line is that I've never had anything like this with any installation in the past. Searching the forums, it seems it's a software problem and it works for some people and for others it doesn't. My best guess is that ATI installation scans my entire computer and maybe doesn't like one of my programs. Among the many Ghost images I've made while playing around with this, I've even found one where WatchHDTV works, but ATI HDTV won't even launch. I should have given up a long time ago, but it's become a real challenge. I'd appreciate any information as to what went wrong and how to correct it before I do anything else. |

In the beginning you stated you have a Nvidia Geforce 5200 in your computer now. ATI anything won't work with a Nvidia video card as far as I know.

In terms of sound, I have to ask - do you have an audio cable hooked up from the TV Card (AUD OUT) to the Sound Card (Audio In)? Also, try using the newer drivers from ATI's website. ATI is not known for incredibly stable drivers, but they tend to be stabler on latter newer versions. Additionally, when you revert to the ghost image to re-attempt installation, be sure that the card is not installed and that you physically install the card only after the drivers are loaded. kram
