7.1 surround more like 3.0 for me!

hi.....i'd really appreciate some help!

i have a SB X-fi audio (A400) sound card with 7.1 surround sound speakers, which all used to work and sound great.

i've just reinstalled windows, downloaded all the appropriate drivers (as far as I'm aware) from the creative website - i auto detected them so my incompetence wouldn't have any bearing on which drivers i'd end up with!

now all that works is the front 3 speakers.....meaning the side, back and the bass(? or whatever that big one's called!) don't work. i've been through the program that downloads with the drivers ("creative" in all programs) and changed all i can find to 7.1 but this isn't having any effect. i've also looked on the control panel but there's not a whole lot of options in the audio section as far as i can see.

oh yeah, couple of other things, i am testing out my sound in bf2, so it's not something that doesn't run 7.1.....also, you may have gathered by now i know just enough about computers to break them, but not to get them working.

anyone got any idea what i'm doing wrong?

if you did autodect as in letting windows search for a driver to install automatically ... then it could have installed a generic windows driver for it. If its a manufactor driver like in your case with the creative card i have had much more luck installing the driver myself (definately the case with the sound/video cards, network cards that i have installed)

I think with Creative cards, you have to use the CD to install the drivers and supporting software *first* - then go to Creative's site to get *updates*.
