Question Is my LCD dying?

Hello,

I have a Vison F173 17" LCD from 2003. So far, given the brand and what I paid for it, it has served me well. The past few days, after having it off all night, when turning it on in the morning it's been making a new, short 'squeak' noise, until the picture is displayed. As of this morning, it has progressed to more of a louder/longer screech.

If I just turn the monitor off and on, only waiting 30 seconds or a minute, no noise.

Any idea what might be causing this, and if I'm going to be shopping for a new LCD soon?

Thanks!

What happens if you just leave the power on but set the display to standby after the computer is idle for so many minutes? It's under Display Properties/Screensaver/Power/Power Schemes and then set the Turn Off Monitor drop down to 10 or 15 minutes. It really doesn't use much power to set the monitor to sleep mode.

Thanks for replying, Kov-Ice.

It does the same thing. In fact, I let it sleep last night, to see if extended sleeping would do anything different than just turning it off. It makes the noise when going from the LED as orange (sleep) to green (on). Since the monitor powers up in the sequence: turn it on, orange LED for a second, green LED/on; it does the same thing whether it comes back from sleep or is being turned on from completely off.

Anyway, after I posted yesterday it did make the noise again later (when turning it on from being off for a while), but just barely.

It's just when something changes and starts happening out of the blue like that, it sends up a red flag for me.

Thanks.
