Question monitor as tv?

I just bought a new 19" widescreen LCD. I payed a pretty penny for it and chose it over a new tv. My tv now is pretty crappy, but works. I play dvds on my pc and just bought a cable slot to watch tv on the PC. I was wondering could I hook my game consoles to the RCA slots on the card? It has the same plugs so I wasn't sure if it would work. If not what would I need to get to be able to do that. I am a college student with limited budget and space so I'd like to ditch the tv if possible. Thank you.

Hi,

yes, you can connect your game consoles to the RCA jacks of the TV card.

Or, even better, hook it up to the S-Video port, that'll give you better quality.

The TV card has the same things on it as the TV tuner inside your TV does. Whatever you hooked up to your TV, can also be hooked up to the TV card.

Question

Thanks. I got it set up and have been playing. I don't kbnow how to set up the s-video slot. The playstation has just RCA. Can I buy adaptors? The other thing is the game seems kind of grainy and dark. Is that normal? I have a good quality monitor, so I don't know why it's like that.

No. I was just referring to connections in general as you didn't say which console you have. I know that the NTSC GameCube does have S-Video, so in that case S-Video would be better than RCA.
If your Playstation has RCA only you don't have that choice. There are adapters, but they wouldn't make sense in this case, because you can still output a composite signal only.
S-Video/RCA adapters exist for only one purpose: To save space on TV cards. Some TV cards have only an S-Video connection on the back, and if you wanna connect RCA to it, you have to use the adapter. But that's it, the signal is still the same.

Grainy .. yes, that's normal. RCA isn't really high quality .. you can see artifacts on the edges, for example.
Dark . . that should only be a matter of the settings of your program. Adjust them the way you like.
