Need Help With A File
I'm a newB and I need your help.
I recently downloaded a video file. It looked like a .WMV file but when I tried to play it, the codec wasn't there. The filename includes "Xvid-DVD rip" but it won't work with DivX or anything else. I've tried all my players and I get nothing. Either i'm told it's not a real .avi or mpeg-4 or the format is not supported. I even tried Gspot and it wouldn't even render. (not sure what that even means) I uninstalled then reinstalled DivX and it still won't work. Is there something wrong? |

If it won't render in Gspot it's probably a corrupted file.

If it is corrupted (and I was thinking along those lines) what can I do?
Can it be repaired? Or should I just cut my losses and delete the thing? |

Not trying to be a smartaleck, but if you are downloading copyrighted material using peer to peer, what you see is not always what you get. Perhaps what you are doing is legal, but I sorta doubt it. I'd delete it and move on.

Wait, before you do that.. try one more thing.
Download the VideoLAN Player, it doesn't use codecs. If that doesn't work (and it usually does), download the Matroska Pack from here. XviD is similar tp DivX... though I don't know of a place to download just that codec... |
