Unhappy Possible VID CRD prob

I built my computer last December, stats in my sig. I have always had a certain problem with it where all my games like to skip randomly for about 5 minutes into the game. For example when i play BF2 as soon as i click join game the sound starts to skip and the game freezes for about 30-40 seconds, the sound just loops itself. And even after that is good i will be running around and the picture and the sound will just stop for abour 2 seconds then eventually leave back off where it was at. In counter strike source i have the same problem where as im running around it will freeze up. I have the best package of dsl my provider offers so i dont think that is the problem, but i think its my video card. I have been considering buying a new one but i dont want to just jump into it if its possibly not my problem. but if you have any idea or suggestion please let me know. MY current video card is a EVgA 6800gt i am considering upgrading to a 7800gt or gtx

Add another gig of ram - BF2 really could use it. Cut your startup and background processes down to a minimum.

You have a disaster waiting to happen there - the A-Top PSU is a L&C - which is one of the worst manufacturers on the planet. You NEED a proper dual rail ATX 2.0 power supply with a 24 pin main connector for a PCI-E rig. I wouldn't be surprised if that is the cause of your issues. You can NOT cheap out on a power supply without risking the rest of your costly components.

wow

I honeslty woulda never thought my psu could be the cause, can u refer me to a good psu from newegg and also tell me a way to find out exactly what kind of ram i have so i could get more? But make sure The psu u recomend me can handle a 7900gt becuase i plan on getting one in the near future, and also i would prefer the price to be kind of low. Thank you

Any component in the system that is not getting enough, or clean, power is going to be affected negatively. A poor power supply might not be giving your card enough power, or dirty power, causing it to lock up. When the card cannot function properly, the game freezes and the system locks up.]

Which PSU did you buy, the Antec?

In Battlefield 2, definetly. And as games become more demanding, you'll notice more improvements.

I noticed you have another thread about overclocking your video card. Did you return your card to stock settings and try your games? That could be a cause of freezes as well.

Definitely DON'T try overclocking again until you have a quality PSU in there. OC'ing on a low quality PSU is like pouring salt on a wound.

Well i got my New Rosewill PSU I am still having some of my same old problems tho, in BF2 it is completely fine now, the extra gig of ram has completely fixed the problem, but i still have my cs source problem where it skips at the beginning of the game every couple of seconds and it lasts about 2 seconds. Does it about 5 times then the rest of the game play is fine. I realize my PSU is still not the best quality, but i dont think that is causing the problem because it did the exact same thing with my old psu. Any other ideas on how to fix it?
