Old Mobo AGP specs questions

I have an old PCchips m825 v1.2b mobo, AMD Duron, system that I haven't been using, so I'm upgrading it a bit for a 2nd computer in the house. I'm throwing in some RAM, a new NIC/ ethernet jack, and a new video card.

Regarding the video card:

The mobo manual says:

-supports AGP 4X 266MHz mode up to 1GB/s bandwith
-250MHz RAMDAC
-supports AGP 2.0

OK so I'm pretty sure the AGP 8x cards will work with this, but my question was regarding the 250MHz RAMDAC and [AGP 4X] 266MHz mode specs in the MOBO manual.

The card I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102031 has a 240MHz core clock, a 400MHz memory clock, and a 400MHz RAMDAC.

What is the [AGP 4X] 266MHz frequency specified in the MOBO manual referring to? The card has a faster RAMDAC than specified in the MOBO manual; is this OK? Will the card be hindered greatly? Should I bother with this 256MB card or should I just go with a 32 or 64MB that has closer clock speeds to those specified in the MOBO?

In short I just want the best card for under $50.

All that's referring to is the specs on the integrated graphics. You can stick any card in there that the power supply is capable of handling. Inserting an AGP card will disable the integrated graphics - and an 8x card will run at 4x.

great! That's what I wanted to hear glc.

I think I have a 300 or 350 watt on this old thing, something like that. I'm only running a 800MHz Duron with the heatsink fan, and all the other basic stuff. I don't have any experience with old systems like this. What kind of video card to you think this can handle?

Without busting the $50 limit and without pushing a possibly weak power supply, probably a Radeon 9550. You can get a GeForce 6200 for $50 too, but it needs 350 watts.

If you aren't going to game with it, just use the onboard video.

Don't worry about the over spec of the card. It will give everything your system will provide. This is a nice card and your system should handle it fine.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133177

PNY quality assured
300 W
and most importantly....no fan...a passive heatsink.

a nice card for under 50 bucks!
