Issues with ATI software

I don't game with my PC, but I do some work with digital video and a lot of work with digital photos and scans. Color accuracy is important, so I have a Pantone ColorPlus colorimeter that does a reasonable job creating a monitor profile, which is then loaded at bootup ...

until ...

I saw someone on the forum recommend a share-/freeware utility called ATI Tray Tools. Sounds good, I thought, as the folks at my favorite photography forum say to uninstall ATI Catalyst Control Center (more on that in a minute). So I install ATI Tray Tools ...

and now my monitor profile doesn't load. I uninstall ATI Tray Tools, and my monitor profile still doesn't load. That flippin' crap software has f'ed up that process. Hopefully that's not such a huge big deal ... I'll try recalibrating the monitor this weekend and hopefully the new profile will be placed where it needs to be to load correctly (*crossing fingers*).

Still the ATI Catalyst Control Center is an issue. Whenever it is opened (say just to check some setting, poke around, whatever) it seems to "refresh" its settings also purging the monitor profile created by the ColorPlus calibration. No biggie, it just loads next time I reboot, except it IS annoying.

So DO I NEED the ATI Catalyst Control Center software on my PC? How do I install updated ATI drivers for my video card (9600 PRO) ... the only download I saw at ATI contained a new version of CCC ... I didn't see an option for just new drivers.

Any sage advice you guys can offer is very much appreciated.

As I said, I don't game, don't overclock.

ATI's CCC is not known to be one of the most friendly software out there. The generally preferred alternative is the normal graphics control panel. Uninstall, then wipe all ATI drivers/programs using Driver Cleaner, then install ATI's Catalyst 5.11 without CCC.
