just builded a new comp ... but something is wrong with the video card. In the catalyst panel it report it as a '' X1900 series card '' and the the speed is a 500/594 .. i mean a XTX is suposed to run at 650/775 right ??
with the overdrive option in the catalyst ( 6.8 ) i can unlock it and let go do the test for the maximum core/mem speed .. it does reach a point above the XTX speed but i can't keep the setting .. the option to keep the overdrive setting is greyed out..... when i run ATI tray tools it dont let me overclock the card ... when i set the core at 650 , i click the apply button and im back at 500 Mhz ... it is really a XTX ... it is written on the BOX , the sitcker on the card .. and the serial number match too ... any idea of what it wrong ??? New build Conroe E6700 Mobo Asus P5W DH Corsair XMS2 memory 2 x 1 Gig X1900XTX fresh install of window XP Pro this new system scored 12 408 in 3dMark05 ...with the current video card speed

CCC is showing you the 2D speed of the card. It will up the card to the higher clocks when you are using a 3D application. ATITool is also running in 2D mode. When you install ATITool, there is an option during install to lock the 3D clocks on the X1*** series cards, which is what you have to do, if you wish to use ATITool for that purpose. Otherwise, ATITool will only run them at 2D speeds.

but i tried what you suggested : ATITool, but i didn't see any option during the install to lock the 3D ..and the proggy don't even work .... then right after i returned on the ATItool website i saw version 0.25 Beta .. i had 0.24 .. so maybe the seeting you talk about is in version 0.25 beta ?? i was already late for work so i didn't have the time to give 0.25 a go ... |

Sorry about the ATI Tray miscommunication. I know they are different programs, simple mistake on my part. Yes, the install selection is in the ATITool beta version (.25). Regardless, if you have CCC installed, the card WILL go higher on the clocks in 3D applications. Your 3DMark05 score would suggest that the 3D clocks are running correctly. With my sig rig, I get between ~10,700 and 11,200 in 3DMark05, with my CPU overclocked. I would say you're running just fine...................................................

If you are overclocking, Make sure you are not using CCC (it really loosens memory timings) OR overclocking in 2d mode.
Follow instructions carefully: 1. Download ATI Tool v.25 Beta 14 or higher, When you start it up it will ask you if you want to disable the Catalyst clock switch or something that prevenents ati tool from overclocking on X1K cards. Click YES. 2. Click start, Run, and type in "msconfig" without the quotes 3. Click on the services tab and disable the overdrive 2/3d switch. By unchecking "ATi Hotkey Poller" & "Ati Smart" 4. Ati tool shouldve already done this part for you if you clicked yes. BUT go to the tab titled Startup, Disable "Ati DTCT" (or something along those lines), Disable "AtiRW", and disable "Ati Ptaxx. 5. Click save and reboot. ****Notes: -If you ever see any issues with ati tool, go back the Catatylst 6.3. As it will run 100% fullproof with ati tools. -I highly suggest you get rid of catatylst control center and replace it with Ati Tray Tools. CCC is a memory hog and will bog down performance, and it might have conflicts with ati tools. (Althought it shouldnt, Just FYI, this isnt required!) To do a proper driver uninstall and reinstall: 1. Download the driver of your choice from Ati and save it to the location of your choice. 2. Download drivercleanerPro 3. Reboot the computer. 4. Uninstall Catalyst control Center. By going into your add and remove programs section of the control panel and useing Ati's catatylst uninstall to uninstall it. 5. Reboot the computer in safe mode. 6. Open up driver cleaner Pro and delete everything with the catatylst or ati name on it. (pertaining to your drivers) 7. Reboot the computer normally and install JUST THE DRIVERS. 8. Open up the drivers you had downloaded earlier and install everything. EXCEPT. Catalyst control Center. 9. To do this go into custom install and unlick everything except the drivers and WDM. 10. Reboot and install Ati tray tools ^^ Optional. Just make sure you follow the instructions with ati tool for overclocking right. It should gurantee flawless ocing for your card. And make sure you save the overclocked profile. P.S ati tray tools has problems with X1K overclocking. It doesnt support it. ~ If you already have ati tray tools installed and you followed those procedures, then your good to go.
