No, you need to use cables from the "line out" or "tape out" jacks on the stereo to the "line in" jack on your computer. You will most likely need a pair of RCA cables and a dual RCA to 1/8" stereo phone plug adapter.

You weren't specific enough. You can use the same setup I described to go from the line OUT on the computer to the auxiliary IN on the stereo and listen to the computer on the stereo. However, you have to select the input on the stereo, you can't listen to the computer and the radio at the same time.

he could just stream radio from the net. but whats the point of listening to the radio when you can download music and make your own playlist with better quality sound.

Actually with a good enough connection speed streaming radio really isn't that bad. In fact I prefer it over regular radio since I live in a small town with nothing but country music stations... and I can not stand country music. I generally use Xbox Media Center for listening to streaming audio but I do sometimes use windows media player and THIS plugin to listen to shoutcast streaming radio.
Back to the original question about using your stereo for your PC speakers. It is possible with certain cables and depending on the inputs available on your radio. If your radio has a mic input you could go a kinda "ghetto" route and just use a double male end audio cable like THIS. If your radio has AUX-IN then you could use something like THIS to connect to your PC's speaker-out and then use THIS to connect to the AUX-IN on your stereo. Then just set your stereo to AUX and your good to go.

If you want to hook your stereo to your computer you need a 1/8" to RCA adaptor to run to the inputs on your receiver. I havent used computer speakers in awhile...simply because they ALL sound like crap...compared to a decent receiver and some low to midrange bookshelves. I used to think my Klipsches were godly. There are some really good PC speakers out there, but theyre Playskool compared to the real deal
