Need some overclock guidelines for my Nvidia 6600gt

Hi guys, I am sure this question has been asked before but I wasn't able to find old threads.
Essentially I replaced the heatsink on my GeForce 6600gt card with a decent Zalman fan. I realize it doesn't mean that its much cooler, but it shoul definately be better than the one that came with the video card.

I have installed Coolbits software and now I can overclock. I am not sure what I must keep in mind when I do this because I haven't done it before.

I don't really need to overclock, but I just want to test it out because I can, if you know what i mean.

-How much do I overclock and which of the two scales first?
-What happens if the cpu starts to overheat and whats the first step to stop trouble.

Thanks

The quick answers are to overclock slowly and reset the speeds to default if you notice any overheating or artifacting.
