PCI EXPRESS x16 Graphics card Problem
Hi There,
I have just built up my first system and have been unable to get the system to pick up the pci express graphics card. I have tried to load driver which does go through installation process and then prompts restart upon which nothing shows up after re-boot(no driver or card). Do I have to go into bios setup and change settings so the motherboard pci slot works properly and recognises the new card ? Another possibility i thought might be a problem is some thing to do with the onboard (motherboard)graphics card, does this need disabling or something ? In the device manager it shows a yellow question mark by a pci card, this shows up even when graphics card is not in pci express slot). When i try to update the driver in the properties window it says it was unable to find driver for pci card. Also the display tab in device manager just does the same and wont update and just installs standard vga windows driver. Please help a poor boy ![]() Cheers Paul |

Yes, in your BIOS there should be a seting to choose your primary graphic interface, and you want to choose PCI (Express).

Hi There,
I have just had a good mess around with bios set up and found it, i think its in the chipset page where i changed to 16 express but am still not able to initial proper running of card. Its weird that when i tried to install driver it actually loaded and rebooted but nothing showed up as loaded and nothing changed from first driver installation. It also keeps loading basic vga driver, I have tried different routes to update driver and nothing is being recognised to install. Also in device manager it is picking up a pci card but it has a yellow question mark and has no driver , i tried this route of driver installation with both motherboard driver cd and graphics driver and neither updated anything. Im hoping its going to be like a good beating 'its nice when it stops' Cheers Paul |

Are you sure your loading the correct drivers, and perhaps first there may be motherboard drivers you need to load off of the D that came with the motherboard.

Hi Again,
On the motherboard cd there was VGA Drivers,Audio Drivers,USB Hub Drivers and Lan/internet Drivers. I have loaded at some point all of these, all the drivers where ok except the VGA Which i think loaded the onboard graphics card(2 showed up in add/remove...graphics and AGP Drivers). Everything works when I dont use my own graphics card but when i put my own in and uninstall old one it still doesnt pick up new card and I have also tried to load drivers from grphics card cd and still it picks up new card as a standard vga card and installs basic windows standard VGA Driver. Oh my..... now my head hurts |

Try a different slot. I have not personally worked with PCI express yet, but I would think you want to be in the first slot, (the one closest to the processor), with your graphics card, and for the time being, pull out any other expansion cards.

There is usually just on PCI-Ex16 slot. Reseat the card. I assume you're running WindowsXP. I've done two PCI-e X16 cards and it was a snap.
