Installed new video card and now problems

[splunge]

installed a new video card (see my posthttp://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...58#post1178158 ) a 9600Pro to my Dell 4550.
The system is recognizing my card and the drivers installed. I'm playing Morrowind and getting a keyboard lag. Also occasionally in menu mode, I occasional get a freeze and beeping from my CPU lasting a few seconds. Any ideas? A poster over on the Elder Scrolls Hardware forums suggested my drivers are too advanced for this card. http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/i...&#entry8712418 Any opinion?

Open Event Viewer.
It sounds like a heat problem but it might not be.
Are you seeing any on screen corruption?
That card is fully able for Morrowind so that's not the problem.

It sounds like you need to RMA the card but checking out the errors in Event Viewer, if there are any, is a first step in knowing what's going wrong.

I'm running event viewer and am not sure what I'm looking for.
In both application and system there are a large number of "information" events. There were 2 error events in both systema nd application, since installing the card, but neither were during the time I was gaming.

did you use the drivers with the card...? go to the ATI site and nab the latest drivers and re-do them... give that a try...

if it did lookin the device manager and see if both cards are listed... uninstall the other card...

I have the new drivers- as I mentioned someone advised me to replace them with older version. See my first post for the link.
I removed the old drivers and ran DC Pro. The old card does not show up on device mgr.

RMA is return merchandise authorization.

You have to scroll down the page with the drivers till you get to Previous Drivers and Software and click on the link.
The catalyst drivers now go back to 6.1 .
Reading the release notes will tell you if any driver version has issues with Morrowind.

The poster on the elderscrolls forums linked me to the Catalyst 6.31 (I beleive) which is working well. At least with morrowind. I'm holding on to the card for now. I hope it'll be a step up from my old 64 meg card.

The card is definitely a step up but unless there's a specific problem with later driver updates and Morrowind it shouldn't have given you trouble.
As long as it's running well and you're happy fine, but keep an eye on it.
If it starts acting up again rma it under the warranty.

Thanks Pam. It was an open box deal on New Egg, so it's a 15 day return. On the older drivers, it seems to be doing well. It was a gamble anyway as Dell told me I'm way limited in what my system could support (irrationally it would seem).

You are only limited by the Dell power supply. Your AGP slot will handle any AGP card made.

Personally, I would use 5.11 drivers with the old control panel, not the Catalyst Control Center.
