Question 26" LCD HDTV with gaming??

I recently bought the Sonia Bravia 26" HDTV. It has a display resolution of 1366 x 768, and 8ms response time. I am going to be using this as my main monitor and i will using this for movies and a lot of FPS gaming. How well do you think this will work. Any advice or comments are welcomed.

The "Sony" Bravia range of LCD screens are very good quality, some of the best around! It's interesting to see that they are now advertising the TV's with a refresh rate, I don't recall that it's something they have done in the past, only with monitors. However, 8ms is pretty quick and you shouldn't have any quibbles with the performance it can offer, for both movies or gaming.

What series is the TV...S, V or W? Or a full model number?

Since the TV has a HDMI connection, it would perform best with a graphics card that has a HDMI connection on it too, rather than a standard VGA connection.

I don't know how the conversion process works on that one, maybe someone else can advise!?

Im kind of concerned about the resolution of this tv though. I have read in a seperate thread that a lcd hdtv upwards of 26" should have a resolution of 1900. If thats the case, then my resolution of very far off and games could possibly play bad. I have alreayd hooked it up to a computer and the movies look pretty good. Just haven't had a chance to play and games (especially FPS like F.E.A.R.)

HDMI comes in a few different forms, depicted by the screens resolution.

What you have is a screen that supports HDMI-720p, what you have seen in the "other" thread is a TV with HDMI-1080p.

This site will make it a little easier to understand: http://www.hdtvinfoport.com/HDTV-Resolution.html

A 1080p resolution would mean the TV has more detail in the picture, because the screen is made up of more pixels. However, I don't believe you will notice much (if any) difference between the two, particularly with a relatively small 26" screen.

If you do some Google searchs for HD-TV and the likes, there's a whole host of information available to clear things up.

I purchased a 37" Westinghouse LVM-37W3 in October and I use it only on the PC. The Westy is 1080P with a DVI port. The stanard resolution is 1920 x 1080 and it looks great, however my 6800GT could not display those resolutions in most games. I'd only get like 25 frames per second. I bought a X1950XTX and now all is good. There is tearing in one game but it should go away when I enable v sync, as soon as I figure out how.

All my games listed the 1920X1080 resolution except Battlefield 1942. If you set your desktop resolution to 1920x1080 it should show up in most games. Even old games like the original Ghost Recon had it listed. Most games you can modify them to work. All of my games look just like they did on the 4:3 crt monitor just really ass big!

Check out this site.

It answered a lot of my widescreen gaming questions.

Glad to hear it works well for you. My tv is only 1366 x 768, so that means thats as high as my video card could display correct? Make any difference between mine and yours?

There is no conversion involved. HDMI is identical to DVI except for the different connector and the fact that it also carries audio. Video is not affected.

Your TV will accept different resolutions but the native resolution, 1366x768 will definetly look best.

i understand that that would be the best resolution but it doesn't list that as an option. Any ideas?

Yes, i have that option. I am using that one right now...but it doesn't fit in the screen. It still doesn't give me the option for the native resolution of the screen even though in my video card options it has the boxed checked that says "use native resolution of monitor." I have added a custom resolution of 1360 x 768 (the native resolution) but it still looks like crap...and i can't figure out how to delete it.

What is the exact model of your TV? Is the refresh rate on your PC set to 60hz? I have connected a PC to a Sony KDL-26S2010 in the past and the picture was just fine using the closest resolution. Do you have "Auto Adjustment" turned on in the PC settings menu on the TV?

The exact model is KDL26S2000. It is set to 60hz refresh rate. There is not an option for auto adjust when I am using HDMI. There is when i use VGA.

I just noticed that when i am connected using HDMI...the "Pc Settings" menu on the t.v. is not available for some reason. When i am using VGA....this menu is available.

Check your owner's manual closely. I have a Samsung 46" lcd tv w/HDMI and it states specifically in the manual that you can NOT connect a pc video card to the HDMI connector. The HDMI is for a DVD player/home theater system connection only. Samsung says pc's can only be connected thru the VGA port. Not sure if this applies to you or not, but it should say in the manual.

I would use the VGA input. You only get the adjustments you need when you use the VGA input, or "PC In".
