I've got a stuck pixel...

Hey guys, is there any possible, proven way to unstick a pixel? I have a brand new Samsung 941BW 19" Widescreen with a stuck bright green pixel that's driving me nuts. I've been reading up on it and found a few solutions but thought I'd ask before I tried anything too invasive.

Quote:
1. Turn off your computer's monitor.

2. Get yourself a damp cloth, so that you don't scratch your screen.

3. Apply pressure to the area where the stuck pixel is. Do not put pressure anywhere else, as this may make more stuck pixels.

4. While applying pressure, turn on your computer and screen.

5. Remove pressure and the stuck pixel should be gone. This works as the liquid in the liquid crystal has not spread into each little pixel. This liquid is used with the backlight on your monitor, allowing different amounts of light through, which creates the different colours.

Gently tapping the area can work in some cases.

An alternative, but similar technique involves gently massaging the stuck pixel on your screen.
I dunno 'bout you, but something about putting pressure on an LCD screen doesn't sound like something I want to do. I've tried a program that flashes colors very fast on the screen to try and unstick it but I've also read that that may take 3 to 8 hours.

I've never heard of any "tried and true" way of unsticking pixels on LCD monitors. And yeah, putting pressure on the screen is just asking to mess up other pixels that are fine right now.

There is no way to "unstick" a stuck pixel. The pixel is stuck because the transistor that controls that pixel is defective. No amount of pressure will fix it.

I believe Samsung has a zero dead pixel policy. You should be able to get a replacement monitor.

That's questionable. It looks to me like Samsung only has a zero bad pixel policy in certain countries. Finding definite info on this is almost impossible on the Web, you may have to call Samsung.

The first quote is from one of my suppliers, the second quote is directly from the site of the main manufacturer of LCD's that I sell.
Up untill today I haven't had a single bad monitor from them even though they claim that their monitors are not grade A.

Quote:
LCD displays may have cosmetic imperfections that appear as small bright or dark spots. This is common to all LCD
displays used in products by all vendor and is not specific to any vendor or brand. Below are the acceptable amounts
of "dot defects" for LCD displays that we sell:
17-Inch to 19-Inch:
Total Defects: 8
Bright or Dark Dots (random): 4
Bright or Dark Dots (2 adjacent): 2
Bright or Dark Dots (3 adjacent): 0
Minimum distance between defects: 15mm (bright to bright
dots)
Minimum distance between defects: 5mm (dark to dark dots)
Quote:
Because of manufacturing limitations, LCD displays may have cosmetic imperfections that appear as small bright or dark dots, commonly known as “dead pixels”. This is common to all LCD displays used in products by all vendors and is not specific to any vendor or brand. XXXXXXX LCD monitors are under the Grade A standard. Under this standard, XXXXXXX will replace an LCD monitor under this warranty if any of the following conditions for such dot or pixel imperfections are true within the 1-year warranty period for LCD panels:

LCD monitor has more than 3 bright pixels.
LCD monitor has more than 3 dark pixels.
LCD monitor has more than 5 total defective (bright or dark) pixels.
LCD monitor has more than 1 set of adjacent 2 defective pixels.
LCD monitor has more than 0 sets of adjacent 3 defective pixels.
“Adjacent” is defined here as within 10.0 mm of each other.

It looks like even if he lives in a country that has the Samsung exchange policy, he'll likely still be out of luck with that. Samsung's website says that any returns or exchanges have to have a minimum of 7 bad pixels. I don't think 1 stuck green pixel is gonna cut it for being "bad", in their books.

Yes, the minimum is like 7 or 8 dead/stuck pixels to allow for a replacement monitor. I only have one. It's stuck, NOT dead. Dead as far as I can tell would be a black or white pixel. Stuck pixels would be blue, red, or green.
I've been reading about people who have had success with the methods quotes in my first post, I just didn't want to go pressing on my screen if you guys had a better solution.
