New monitor insists on connecting as analog...

Just got a Samsung 931B and on booting in top left corner flashes "analog" than "digital"... they flash on and off and then it stays on analog. I tried DL'ing the driver from samsung... though for some odd reason it wouldn't connect. Could that be it? Could it simply be a driver issue?

I have a GeForce FX 5500 btw.

Any advice would be terrific!

TIA

~Vinny

Are you connected from the digital output port of your video card to digital input port of the monitor with a dvi cable?

Does the monitor cable have a blue connector or a white one? I am not sure if it is universal but usually Blue is analog white is digital.

annnnnnnnd just my luck its blue.

ok, i'll be purchasing a digital cable tomorrow.

id imagine that'd be the reason when i switched ports i got no signal from the comp

It's not the color - it's the type of connector and the pins. Analog (VGA) is 15 round pins in 3 rows. Digital looks totally different.

sorry to dig up old thread but I read the last reply and had to ask another question.

does the GeForce FX 5500 have a digital out?

reason i ask is the cord that came with the monitor fits the second port on the vid card (though i get no signal from it)... so if thats the case i'm assuming it has no digital out because an analog cord wouldn't fit a digital port... correct?

i dont neccessarily need a digital signal, i'm not doing heavy multimedia apps, though the wife is a photographer and uses this machine for her photoshop work. i could live with the analog until i replace this machine.

ugh.

TIA!

Glad to see you figured it out.

But on a side note, please don't use language on PCM, censored or not. Thanks.
