Please help choosing video card

Hello all...I have been here a few times before and everyone has been so helpful. So, I have a new question and was hoping I could get a bit of help.

I have $150 to spend on a new GPU...hoping for 256MB or more. I have a PCI express x16 slot to put it in. I need to upgrade my store bought computer's card. My current PC is a Compaq SR1950NX...it supposedly has an ASUS A8N-LA mobo and an Athlon 64 3800 (2.4GHz). There is also 1GB of RAM.

So, I need a GPU for games like Everquest, Vanguard, etc...

Any suggestions out there? I will use newegg for ordering.

Thanks in advance for the help!

EDIT: also, I have a good 400W PSU from an old build that I can swap into the Compaq if it needs it.

I'll be a bit more specific.

First, I don't want or need SLI/Crossfire.

Should I be looking at ATI or NVidia board? Am I better getting a higher end 256MB board than a lower end 512MB board? Really, any input will help...please.

You can get an EVGA 7600GT for 140.00. That should take you where you want to go. You will need a reliable POWER SUPPLY. If there is any doubt about the ones that you have, consider an investment in one of those as well.
