Sound issue when playing movies on my HDTV via DVI cable.

I have my computer set to clone the screen onto my HDTV via a DVI cable. I have a splitter for the sound, and it previously was working fine. I was originally using the mobo's on board sound, but was forced to buy an add on sound card after experiancing static with the mobo's sound. I have the splitter hooked up to the sound card now, and one way goes to my desktop speakers (which worked perfect) and the other goes the tv. Well the tv wont play sound when I try to play videos from my computer on it. It was working fine with the mobo's sound, but now it refuses to work. Sorry if this is long, but I just wanted to try to clearly explain my situation. Thanks for any input guys.

Yes, everything works fine without the splitter. Why would the splitter just crap out on me like that? Its not even old.

If it works without the splitter, it HAS to be the splitter, don't you think?
