Eliminate the black bar at top and bottom
On my older computer that had XP Pro and Windows Media Player 10, I thought I found a way to eliminate that one inch black space at the top and at the bottom of certain videos.
This new computer also has XP Pro but with Windows Media Player 11. I can not figure out how to eliminate that black space at the top and bottom of certain videos. If I go into NOW PLAYING / ENHANCEMENTS / VIDEO SETTINGS / SELECT VIDEO SETTINGS, I see five choices, Fit video to player on resize, Fit player to video on start, 50%. 100%. and 200%None of the five choices eliminates that black space. What am I doing wrong ? I am pretty sure there was a way to eliminate that black space when I had the other computer with WMP10.

Sounds like you are playing widescreen videos in a standard sized window.

glc-thanks for the reply. I am playing a video that I purchased, on my 19" wide screen Hanns-G monitor #HW191D. I am pretty sure that when I played the same video on my older computer that only had a 19" CRT monitor, I was able to enlarge the video so that I did not see any black space at the top or bottom. The only other difference was that then I had Windows Media Player 10, and now I have WMP11 ??? Did WMP10 have additional features that WMP11 does not have ??

Even though you have a wide screen computer monitor, video resolution is a slightly different size than monitor resolution, smaller in the horz. direction. Which may explain the black bars.

Many movies are filmed in aspect ratios wider than 16:9, the standard for widescreen TV's and PC monitors. Because of this, you will still have black bars on a wide screen display. If you zoom in to get rid of the bars then you cut off a portion of the picture.
