Vid card and PSU problem
Ok I have a ATI 1950X Video card http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814102067 and a E-Power PSU http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817101021. My problem is the Video card recommends having 30a on the 12v rail, well the PSU only has 20a on the 12v rail. Now, my second problem is when my cpu fan kicks into high I lose video (screen blinks on and off about 2X and resorts back to default settings.). Could these be connected? Also if it is a problem and its the PSU will the following PSU work http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703008. Thanks for any help in advance.

You should have plenty of power, you can combine the two 12V rails (12V1 and 12V2) for a total of 40a...E-Power is also on our good list, but other than that I can't comment on it's quality. Did you hook the extra power supply connector up to the video card (the 6-pin connector)?
Does the computer go back to normal after the CPU kicks in and flashes? I'm not sure what's going to back to default settings... Also, is this a newly built computer or is this a new problem?

Blue60007, I only see one power connection to the video card unless I am missing something.

The internal rails that the PSU uses to divide up power can be combined when looking at total amps. So when the PSU has two 12V rails at 20A, it really has a total of 40A available. That total is what the video card specs refer to, so you're all set.
The physical connector on the card is another thing. And yes, you should only have and need one.

Sweet! Ok to answers Blue's question, this is a semi new PC. I used like 3 things from the old one. I used CD-Rom, Floppy and Audio card. Also, after it flashes it goes back to 800 X 600 res. So if I understand right, since I am not using the 2nd 12v rail, the other 20a is used in the first 12v rail and I need not do anything physical with the PSU.
2nd question, would the PSU burn up or anything if I left that turbo feature on? Last edited by af_blue; 03-22-2007 at 09:24 PM. |

Turbo feature? Are you talking about Overdrive? I would turn that off and see if the problem goes away. Overdrive is an overclocking feature built into the Catalyst drivers. Overclocking might cause problems and taking that off would the be the first troubleshooting step...

Thanks Blue! Check out the link on the PSU I am using http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817101021. It has a 2nd fan you can use (They call it a turbo). I leave the overclocking to the pros and I have a ways to go before doing that.
