Video card / Power supply
Is there any test or utility I can run while playing a PC game that will tell me the output of my power supply ? Or the staus of my video card power requirements ? I am having a video glitch when trying to play a recently purchased PC game. Other games are working fine but this one may demand a larger power supply to help the video card keep up. Are there posted symptoms of under powered video card and what the results are ?
I am trying to play Heroes of the Pacific by Ubisoft. After a good install ,I get about a dozen colored horizontal rolling bars [1" wide] no clear video, I hear the familiar game running in the background. EVGA 7600GS [400 watts req] CoolerMaster case w/430Watt power supply included |

We'll if that powersupply came with the case, then yes its low quality.
But the powersupply doesn't usually cause artificating or any visual anomalies. If the PSU is not up the task, it will keep shutting down or just die (low quality). Do you have the latest drivers and patches installed? Is the fan on the videocard running? It could be overheating. Does this happen with any other games?

Power supply
My son plays Lego Star wars 1&2 and King Kong. On occation those game's video will drop out and we get the same color bars as described above. We closed the game and re-started and it began to work again. I have had this video glitch on 2 Ubisoft games I have tried to install. Good install, no video immediately after install. Normal Window tasks, E-mail etc. the video is great . Yes I have installed the latest drivers,and the fan on the card is turning. What should be ,if any, the BIOS settings for PCI Express video cards, auto ? I have an Intel D955XBK Motherboard. The card is plugged into the top PCI slot, closest to the PS

The Bios settings are fine at auto.
And there isnt any dust build-up in the card correct? Sounds to me like the memory on the card is buggered, I would contact your video card manuf. or the store from which you bought it and see if you can get it exchanged. |

Problem solved- Old CRT monitor will not not support new video card. Bought new monitor
