Sound Goes Up By Itself
I've tried searching the forums for the problem I'm having, and this post (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...ight=hp+volume) is the closest thing I've found relating to it. Unfortunately, no one ever answered it.
I've had my HP Pavilion (specs in my signature) notebook for 6 months, and it has been very reliable so far. A few days ago I started having a problem with the sound. Right above my keyboard is a QuickPlay strip. It is a touch sensitive strip that lets me control DVD playback, access the Media Center, and it has volume controls. I can raise, lower, and mute the volume with this strip. When I do change the volume, the word "Volume" pops up on the screen in large green letters and a meter shows up below it indicating where the sound level is. The other day I was recording old camcorder tapes to the computer using Pinnacle Studio 10, and I left the room. I came back a little while later, and the green Volume message was up on my screen with the volume turned all the way up. I tried turning the volume down using the QuickPlay strip and it did not respond. The Volume message was still stuck up on my screen. After restarting my computer the Volume message was gone; however, I still cannot use the Volume QuickPlay strip controls. I can still use the other parts of the strip like accessing the Media Center. Now every 5 minutes or so the Volume message will flash up on the screen with the volume turned all the way up. When I access the volume controls through the system tray, the main volume control slider cannot be changed (the other sliders can though). If I mute the volume, it unmutes itself. If I slide the volume all the way down, it just goes right back up. This all happens when the volume message is on my screen. After a few minutes it will go away, and I then can adjust the volume through the system tray. Once the Volume flashes back up on the screen it just cranks the volume all the way up again. Sorry for the long post, but I'm just trying to give as much information as possible. I couldn't find anything about this on the HP website, so I'm trying my luck here. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Well, you're obviously more of an expert than I am. Your suggestion did the trick. No wonder everybody was jumping all over this one to throw in an idea. HarshWinter, thanks a lot for the reply, I'm sure it would have taken me another month before I'd have thought to do that. And once again, I'm an idiot....
