Is max resolution limited by the video card or the monitor?

Hello. I have a geforce 6600 video card and a 19inch monitor with 2ms response time. My resolution somehow doesnt go over 1280 by ###, while at work I saw monitor with resolution that went to 1900 somethings.
What can I do to get higher resolution?

Hi,

you need to get a bigger monitor.

19" 5:4 (non-widescreen) monitors have a resolution of 1280x1024, so that's the max. you can get.

If you want 1920x1200, you'd need a bigger widescreen monitor. 20-24" models should have that resolution.

CRT are dependent on both the Card and the Monitor. Like RJ, I'm assuming you are talking about an LCD.

They usually have the follow native resolutions :

19" widescreens - 1440 x 900
20" and 22" widescreens - 1680 x 1050.
24" widescreens - 1920 x 1200.
