Recommended Card and Speakers?

I"m looking to purchase a sound card and speakers and was wondering which are the best quality for price. I'm probably going to be an X-Fi capable sound card. I'm looking for 2.1 speakers also. Price range combined should be around $200.

How much do you want to spend? How much space do you have? Im a strong advocate of the stereo amplifier and bookshelf speakers. Dont get the Xtreme Audio, it isnt a true X-Fi, as it doesnt run the X-Fi DSP. Youd be better off with an Xtreme Gamer. I recommend these paired with a used amp of your choice...eBay or Craigslist will net you something decent for under $50. Then you will need RCA cables and a 1/8" stereo to phono RCA adaptor. Those Insignias are unbeatable for the money, they will sound better than most speakers in the under $100 category. If you stuff the cabinets full of polyester batting, it gives them more bass. They have excellent imaging as well, not a directional sound like most other speakers in their price range. Take a read at AVSforum and read the long threads about them.

Get the Xtreme Gamer X-Fi from creative. Fantastic sound quality and plenty of neat features to play with... and some you may never use! As for speakers... idk. haven't bought any in a while. Bought the Gigaworks 7.1's when they first came out and havent upgraded since.
