replacing 8800gts 320

ok so i bought this card for my first build and im slightly dissapointed with the fps im getting evrything is fine according to 3d mark06 getting average scores of 8700, all the old games im playing run awesome, bf2, WoW, Fear. But the new games i run are not so good, Stalker, CoH, LOTRO.

Im thinking of getting a new card and im not sure what to get, 8800 gtx or 2900xt 1024. Maybe i should wait a bit for a new card to come out but there bound to be overpriced i have about £350 ($700?) to spend.

Ive got in the trap where im tweaking games instead of actually playing them, i dont want to worry anymore i want 60fps solid every game i play, ive got directx10 in mind, ok here are my specs

antec 900 case
antec trio 550w
e6400 C2D
asus P5B Deluxe
8800gts 320mb
20" samsung << 1680x1050

I would wait until the next line of ATi and Nvidia cards are released, but just curious, what FPS are you getting on CoH with the 8800GTS?

Hmm, to get u over I would suggest overclocking your e6400. The 8800 is a great card. I have the 640mb versio and I play every game max settings at 1680x1050 resolution and I have never had a problem. The odd part is that my 3dmark score is MUCH better than yours. Mines over 1100... I'd try a reformat of windows if your really desperate.

Good Luck!

ok i can play on full settings on CoH solidly on 1280x1024, but slows down loads once i get to 1680x1050. Dont even talk about dx10 shader that brings it to a crawl on full settings.

You say you get 1100 on 3dmark06 thats good, when i post my scores online its somewhere near the top on similar systems so i shouldnt be worrying, i think.

has any of nvid/ati comfirmed release dates for the next gen cards?

well the strange thing is last night i tried 3dmark06 and it was running soooo slow i got a bit worried so i change the card to a different pci-e slot and that did the trick.

Im thinking of actually taking my pc to a proffesional to sort it out, suppose it will be cheaper than buying new hardware
