Should i buy 8800 now or later?

Hey,

i been looking at the 8800 cards and they are pretty high up inprice because they are the newest release by nvidia however i've always retreated from buying because i'm unsure if its the right time. The game i will most likly buy it for is Crysis and the game isnt out till nov 16 and demo until oct 26 so do you think i should wait for 9 series to come out and get 8800 GTX/Ultra or just go with 8800 GTS now? Also how much do you expect the cards prices to go down?

Heres my current system specs:

Core 2 Duo E6600
750GB Samsung Hard-Drive
2 GB Ram
X1650 SE 512MB
600W OCZ PSU
Windows Vista Home Premium.

should i stay with what i got and get a card sometime in november or do you think the price wouldnt drop that much and might aswell buy it now?

please help me

Thanks

If you are upgrade specifically for a certain game I would wait until that game is available. Price will almost certainly drop by then(if only a few dollars) but also waiting for the next generation of cards isn't a good idea either.

I heard that 8950 or 9 Series will be release around November or October, I forgot, to counter ATI 600 or something I forgot too. That mean 8800 prices might drop by then.

Wait for DirectX 10.1, it seems that the current cards won't be compatible.

Well, it is kind of redundant to anticipate 10.1 if yu are not even planning on getting Vista.

well here is what i am planning which may help you decide. i am gonna pick up an 8800ultra from EVGA. they have a 90day step-up program which mean's the price of the 8800 can be used toward's the newer 9 serie's card which is due out soon. as for the price's, they really haven't moved much in quite some time hard to say when/if they will.as for CRYSIS i am playing the demo right now with the system in my sig.a DX10 card really is needed to make this game look it's best without lagging and slowdown's

I think he is referring to the Beta which was released earlier this month. I believe you are correct.

lol i figured that... wish i could have gotten in on the beta... also my new $530 video card isnt going to be compatible with DX10.1? if this is the case i am not going to be very happy..... i didnt spend that kind of money for the damn thing to be obsolete in 6 months.

The Inquirer made it sound worse than it is (surprise?)

Read this though - http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/d...815123340.html

link doesnt want to open..... i have never found The Inquirer to be exactly trust worthy..... lets just say i am going to be VERY upset if my card doesnt support updates like DX10.1 or later for atleast a year and a half.. i know there is always new technology... but this damn thing better not be obsolete for a good while yet.... i have never paid this much for a video card and like hell if i am going to spend this much again if it doesnt support updates

It says that DirectX10 graphics cards will still be able to download DirectX10.1 and use it, but unfortunatly it won't be able to take advantage of all the new features.

When you buy a new system you have to know that it will quite possibly be obsolete in six months. I'm quite surpised my current computer hasn't been made redundent yet, i keep an open mind about things. And you should too. Who cares if you can render something 2nano seconds faster? Will you honestly notice a difference? All I care about is playing the game, and if it can play it at max settings, then thats a bonus.

i understand technology changes and this isnt going to be the latest and greatest for long. But i bought it to be able to run games fast and smooth... i like detail i dont want to run on midrange settings when i pay for max settings.... lol i know this sounds like i am whining and frankly i am lol lesson learned.... next time dont go and spend $500 on any one piece of hardware

EDIT: ok got the artical to load... i am done complaining i feel better LOL

Looks like the differences are purely high level eye candy...

I've never actually seen a massive quality difference in the AA and AFs actually, its just another marketing gimmick no doubt NVIDIA will pounce appon.
