First -- i bought a prebuilt PC with everything but the videocard (hoping to save money) - and ordered an EVGA 8600GTS from newegg...
Powersupply is only 300 wat - but I only have 1 cd drive, 1 harddrive, and video card - no other devices - - the box says requires 400 wat power supply.. am i screwed? or does it matter? my friend said it only makes a dif if u have a fully loaded system with like 2 HDs 2 cd burners etcetcetc.... Second -- the powersupply is all SATA power connectors.. and the videocard.. the 8600gts... needs 2 molex connectors... what the hell do i do?! If I buy adapters to convert SATA to molex - will I damage my card or my board/powersupply? I'll be losing roughly 40 dollars on shipping and tax if I send the card back and order a new one - so I'm trying to avoid that (poor student).... Any help would be great.

Welcome to PCMech.
Are you saying your power supply doesn't have any extra molex connectors? I have yet to see any PSUs that do not have any. At any rate, you need to upgrade your PSU. 300w is not enough, and I would guess that it is not an ATX 2.0 unit with dual 12V rails that new builds need. Go with this unit and you'll be all set: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954
