DVD not found

I am trying to watch a DVD on my PC but the system is not recognizing the DVD. It plays in other DVD players fine. And other DVDs will play in my PC just fine. Any ideas? This is the first time I have had a problem playing a DVD on ym system. The DVD is not homemade. It is a PBS home video if that helps any.

Hey, you may need to check the region code, and see if your dvd player matches. Also, try a different player, VLC works well and it's free. Does it work ok in a standalone DVD player? Maybe it's protected some how. Hope that helps.

It is region one, NTSC. My system is not even recognizing that a DVD is in. So its not the player.

Hello again. Another suggestion is to find a way to get the dvd copied, and see if the copy will play back in your dvd rw drive. Before you say that's illegal, it's not. There is a little clause in the copyright act, called the "fair use clause", that basically says, if you legitimately own the original, you are allowed to make a copy for yourself, so the original doesn't get damaged. As long as you don't distribute the copy for profit, or ortherwise, the law can't touch you. There are numerous free, or trial programs that can accomplish this.

Will that DVD play in any computer drive?
If it will play in a stand alone player but not in a computer take it back.
If it plays in other computers but not yours check to see if it only plays in DVD-ROM and not DVD-RW drives.
Also a little searching might turn up the fact that certain drives, like Lite-On, have a problem with that particular DVD.
