Using Media Coder to convert youtube videos.

I've been trying to convert youtube videos into a playable format for windows media player. I have been able to get the video to transcode, but I can't seem to be able to get the audio. I know it has something to do with the source and the encoder. Any help?

I don't know about that transcoding you're trying to do, but I can tell you how I get them in that format. I use KeepVid and the Ultra Flash video converter. KeepVid is a website that gives you a downloadable address to use. You just go to http://keepvid.com/ and copy the address of the youtube video page into the box. Select "Youtube" from the dropdown menu to the right (there's alot of other sites in there too) and then hit "Download". Below the green box, it'll give you a download address. Right click on it and select "Save target as" and give it a name. Be sure to put ".flv" on the end of it though, so it saves it as a flash video.....otherwise it won't be a file that any program will recognize. In other words, if you want to call the file "movie", then in the box where you name it to save it, type in "movie.flv" (without the quotes, of course).

That should get you the movie in flash video format. Then you can use the Ultra Flash Video Converter to change it from an flv to a wmv file. You can get that program here. http://www.ultrashareware.com/Ultra-...-Converter.htm
The free trial version only lets you convert one file at a time and you'll need to go into the Options and tell it what format you want to convert to and stuff, but it's pretty easy to use and does a decent job of making a viewable wmv file. You might want to mess with the bitrate settings and the like to get a little better quality, because some of the ones I've done have wanted to skip occasionally when I had the bitrate too high. Hope this helps.
