Thumbs up BFG 8800GT OC2 Review/Benchmarks!

I should get my BFG 8800GT OC2 today and get it installed after work tonight. I'm sooo psyched. I'll try and post benchmarks here as soon as I can. The BFG 8800GT OC2 runs at...

Performance
GPU NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Core Clock 675MHz (vs. 600MHz standard)
Shader Clock 1674MHz (vs. 1500MHz standard)
Fill Rate 37.8 Billion/sec.
Stream Processors 112

Memory
Video Memory 512MB
Memory Type GDDR3
Memory Data Rate 1950MHz (vs. 1800MHz standard)
Memory Bandwidth 62.4GB/sec.

According to Tom's Hardware Guide's VGA Charts/Graphs it should easily be 2 to nearly 3 times as fast and powerful as my X1950Pro. I just got a 24" monitor and my current card is struggling to run games at 1920x1200. I'm currently playing a lot of Crysis, Call of Duty 4, Oblivion and F.E.A.R. and I may start playing BioShock again after installing this card. My Sapphire X1950Pro w/512MB GDDR3 is a really sweet card but it's just not up to running the higher resolution with the eye candy turned up. I can't wait to try this baby out! I'm dying to see what my 3DMark 05 & 06 scores will be. Sorry to make the post before I actually have the benches done but I'm just so darned excited!

I got the Asus 8800GT last week and it's awesome. Way better than my X1600Pro. I reckon the 8800Gt's are best bang for bucks atm.

I unfortunately paid through my nose for this OC2 because I'm a money spending computer addicted idiot. It was marked way, way up on Zip Zoom Fly.

Cool First Benchmarks!

Hey, I just installed my new Samsung 1TB hard drive and new 8800GT OC2. The install of everything went very well and smooth (THANK GOD!). I just ran 3DMark05 & 06.

3DMark06= Overall: 13,631 (My old score w/ X1950Pro was 6,106)
SM2: 5680
SM3: 5528
CPU: 4728

3DMark05= Overall: 18,028 (My old score w/X1950Pro was 11,437)
CPU: 12592

AquaMark3= Overall: 171,069
GFX: 33,204
CPU: 17635

I'm confused as to how my 3DMark06 score more than doubled but my 3DMark05 score only went up like 50%. I might have to run it again or something.

ALSO, this Samsung 1TB drive is supposed to be the new fastest drive to beat. I ran HDTach on her and...

Quick/Short Test= 92 MB/s Reads
Slow/Long Test= 94.2 MB/s

My 750GB WD GP was reading at 73-74MB/s AWESOME!

Cool Wow!!!

I've just spent some time playing Crysis, Call of Duty 4 and Oblivion all at 1920x1200 with settings on high. All I can muster is HOLY COW! I can't believe how much this card rocks! When I played Crysis with my X1950Pro, I had to use medium settings for things to be smooth. I could set some settings to high but it would slow down greatly. With this 8800GT OC2, I chose "Optimal Settings" in the options and it set everything to "High"! Awesome! I really couldn't believe it. This game is completely different at high settings. Honest to God, I've never seen a game that varies so much with different quality settings. With things set to low-medium the game honestly looks bad. I think that Far Cry looks better but when you jump up to high settings the game gets so incredibly different. The detail and realistic water, plants and lighting are insane.

Call of Duty 4 played well on my previous card but it's still much smoother and faster now on the 8800. Details look finer.

Oblivion while it is an older game looks fantastic. It really is gorgeous. I seriously give this card a 9.9 out of 10. Unfortunately like I said earlier, I got severely ripped off on the price which sucks but this card is insanely awesome. I'm thrilled!

You think Far Cry looks better than Crysis when Crysis settings are on low?

What are you smoking?

Either way, congrats on the card and HDD. Glad they are serving you well.

Yes, I honestly do. The graphics of Crysis on medium/low at 1920x1200 look pathetic. Especially when you're in a hut looking around at all of the stuff like the fridge, pots & pans, chairs, water bottles and bananas and stuff. It looks like friggin' Atari 2600. But the game/graphics COMPLETELY CHANGE when you go to high. It's truly amazing the difference it makes. It's like a totally different game.

I will agree with you that the graphics do look much better in high (I have everything cranked save the shaders, and I still get 30 fps), but Far Cry looks like a plastic playground compared to Crysis.
