VGA to S-Video for second monitor?

Hi, I recently got a new laptop with a Geforce 8600 GS in it. Aside from the built-in display, the card also has VGA and HDMI outs. With my old tower (and its FX5500) I had a direct S-video out that I used to connect to a TV (a standard 20" CRT), with no problems.

I bought an breakout adapter that's vga to s-video and component video, but as of yet all I get on the TV are crazy black and white waves and such. What kind of settings do I need to get the TV up and running?

Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing? 'Cause I don't.

Have you enabled the secondary monitor in your display properties?

Yes, I'm still trying to use the 20", and I have the secondary display enabled. I know that something is getting to the TV; when I change the refresh rate for the second monitor, the crazy static changes to something differently crazy.

(sorry for the delay)
