Three monitor setup
I'm looking to get three monitors hooked up to my pc and have a few questions. Firstly, I'm using an 8800gts card with two inputs, and it came with an adapter so I can plug both vga and dvi inputs into it.
-I remember seeing some item that let you 'split' your input so that you could hook up three monitors even on a two or one-input card. I could be wrong, but does this exist and if so where can I get it? -If I need to get an additional card, I'd like to spend as little as possible. Will any card run smoothly with my 8800 or will I need to get a specific type of card (like another 8800)? My pc specs if needed: asus p5b mobo c2d e6600 2G ram 8800gts 320mb ...not sure you need anything else. If so, let me know. |

The splitter you're probably thinking of is the Matrox Dual/Triple Head2Go. They work well, but are rather expensive. This would be your best option for gaming though, if you want the surround screen effect.
I'm a fan of the extra video card method. You don't need anything fancy if you're not gaming. Any cheap PCI card will work just fine. I'd toss in a Geforce 6200, they are inexpensive and should play nice with your existing Geforce card.

Great, that card's a lot cheaper than I was expecting.
This isn't strictly for gaming (work), but I do use my PC for gaming as well. The extra, inferior card won't screw anything up, will it? Thanks for the help

The extra card won't be a problem for games. They will still play on the first card and load up normally on the center monitor. I just turn off my side LCDs for gaming.
Just FYI, you might check out UltraMon or DisplayFusion. They are software programs that add a lot of extras for controlling the screens, such as wallpaper options. Windows XP (I believe Vista is better) doesn't have much in this area. |
