9800 gx2 - question from a noob

I guess this is a bad question, but will the large 9800 gx2 card fit in a ATX midtower case?

It depends on the case since not all cases are the same size (midtower is a generality, it does not have specific specifications). Which case did you have in mind?

the 9800GX2 is like the same length as the GTX, about 10.5 in or 26.5 cm. The other 8800 cards are all a bit over 9 in or 23 cm. 10.5 in is a big increase so if you have the case just measure it. If you are just looking at it then check the demensions and read reviews to see if anyone has tried it. I am pretty sure the Antec 900 can handle the longer card so you might check the length (depth) measurement against that case to see if it is as big.

Another problem to consider, is if the card comes up right against the front bays you might have air flow problems and need fans both in the upper portion and lower portion of the case because the card creates two seperate chambers for air flow.

The g800gx2 is actually 11 inch. EVGA made a mistake.
