Realtek HD Audio Manager Question

Hi, I have an Asus M3A Motherboard with onboard sound. I installed the sound drivers and the Realtek HD Audio Manager software which shows as an orange speaker in my system tray.

I have 2 questions.

1. Every time I unplug something from my front speaker jack and plug something else in (for example when I change from my high quality set of headphones to my headset for talking on Ventrillo) the #$#%^@ program pops up and asks what I plugged in. It's very annoying, does anyone know how to stop it?

2. This question may answer my first question, do I really NEED the damn Realtek HD Audio Manager software to be running in the background all the time? Can I just remove the software and have everything still work ok?

Thanks for any help you can give.

For question 2, I don't think you would need it, as long as you have the drivers for it. Easiest way to find out is to try though.

I'm sure there are many versions of the software, with different features, but try this:

1. Right click on your Icon in the system tray

2. Open "Sound Manager."

3. Click on "Connection Sensing."

4. There should be a check box asking whether or not you want to be notified of new connections, plugging/unplugging, etc.

Your version of the S/W may differ.
I have version 5.10.0.5490 On an ECS mobo with VIA 3059 Audio controller.

I would say read again your mobo manual. It's always happen to me everytime I plug my speakers system. I guess you tried to plug your headphone without look the back of PC. You might plug the headphone into wrong jack.

Thanks guys! I got figured out, the main problem is these companies always seem to want to design their own windows rather than rely on the standard window layout of microsoft.

Instead of a "preferences" or "options" choice at the top of the window, they had a little tiny wrench icon near the the word "Analog" and when I clicked that I found the checkbox for "Enable Auto Pop Up dialog when device has been plugged in" I clicked it off, and no more problems.

Thanks for the replies guys!
