8800 GT vs 9800 GX2
Ok i did some research now..... Alot of people said the 9800 GX2 Get's extremely hot very often and the 8800 GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130336 does not get extremely hot.. other 2 differences.. 8800 GT alone has 1 GB Video ram and 9800GX2 has 1 GB ram all together.. i am going to buy 2 8800 GT's that i posted before because it doesnt heat up like a firecracker and has more ram. The only difference i came up with is that my FPS will drop a littlebit.. Help me out please.... ..thanks!

Well, the 9800GX2 is basically two 8800GTSs stuck together. So, it is understandable that for raw power it will beat two 8800 GTs in SLI because the 8800 GTS is a step higher card.
Where the 8800 GTs will shine is in on-board memory. You should see improvment on the resolution and pickture quality at higher settings. But for pure speed you would need a couple of GTSs instead of GTs. Kat

Um.... that is a lot of horsepower, and about $1200 in video cards, I cant immagine needing two 9800 GX2s for anything. How big is your monitor and why do you need all the horsepower? I must have missed an earlier post. I thought you where talking about going SLI wit two 8800 GTs or using one 9800 GX2, using two of those monsters would be huge over kill for almost everything I would think.
Check out this review, they dont even bother listing the 9800 GX2 because you can SLI lower cards for about the same performance for less money. I just think with two 9800 GX2s you are probably paying an extra $400 or so for very little gain in performance. http://www.tomshardware.com/2008/04/...e_card_for_200 Kat |

![]() Hmmm, so you're going to pay another $600 for an extra .8fps in crysis? Upgrade your processor or save your money and get a 9900gtx when it comes out. Better yet, get a Skulltrail build. That would really fly. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/681/6/ Last edited by Drunner611; 04-08-2008 at 07:16 PM. |

k lets clarify: the 9800GX2 fits into one pci express slot, but it is has two 8800series gpus in it; the 8800 series cards all have single gpus.
furthermore, sli is the linking of graphics cards via a special adapter on a sli compatible motherboard that allows both of the cards to function as a single hybrid graphics processing system (providing graphical output to only one of the cards outputs, but utilizing both cards). the 9800GX2 series 'cards' are actually constructed from two 8800 series gpus, that are sli linked from the factory, but it only utilizes a single pci express slot, and both pcbs share a common heatsink (and face inwards). they only have the outputs from a single 8800 card. |
