5.1 Audio

Specs & speakers are in my sig below.

I spent a good 3-4 hours searching the net for a fix, but nothing seemed to work.

My problem: I can't get 5.1 audio to work on my PC. I'm using the latest realtek drivers. I've tried changing my sound to "Room", speaker range option, fill audio option, bass management, uninstalling & reinstalling drivers, and others.

I'm not sure what else is left to do. Windows is fully updated as well.

Anyone else have any suggestions I may have not tried yet?

A friend runs 32bit vista with the same audio drivers and says his 5.1 works.

Is this onboard sound for the ASUS board in your signature? Do you get sound otherwise, just not 5.1?

Yeah, onboard, i've got 2.1 working.

When i'm in the sound panel testing each speaker I only get noise out of left and right speakers. No noise coming from center, sub, or rears.

Do the speakers have a switch on the back of them that lets you select 2.1 or 5.1. I know mine does.

I'm betting it's a Vista driver issue. My old P4P800-Dx would not run 5.1 with 32 bit Vista. Exact same symptoms you describe. Mine is Soundmax audio. I ended up installing my old Creative Soundblaster Audigy card so I could use the true 5.1 speakers.

Funny thing Panama, my buddy has the exact same setup as me and his 5.1 works, he says.

When I test the rear speakers the sound comes out of the front now while using the audio fill. Absolutely no sound comes out of the rears.

I also don't see a switch for 5.1/2.1
