Resolution won't stay

I'm having a problem with the system in my signature. For the past week I've had it connected to my plasma with the output resolution set to 1920x1080. Yesterday I moved it back to the desk with the boring little 20" LCD.

I set the resolution back to 1400x1050, the native resolution of my monitor. It works fine until the monitor turns off, which it is set to do after 20 minutes of no activity. When I attempt to wake it up the monitor says "Out of range" which tells me that the PC has reverted back to 1920x1080. The only way to get it working again is to do a hard reset. It has done this several times since yesterday and I keep applying and reapplying the appropriate resolution to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas?

Set the resolution, apply, ok, and reboot. That usually does the trick.
