Sceptical Gamer Buying First LCD Monitor
So my 20" CRT monitor is beginning to give me pretty bad headaches and after seeing the color vibrance of my friend's LCD has convinced me that I FINALLY need to take a serious look at this "new fangled technology". I'm looking to spend under $300 for a monitor including S&H. It seems like all the reviews on Newegg.com for almost every monitor is positive. Now I've SEEN a whole slew of these monitors that have extreme ghosting and visibility issues. Is everyone just reviewing their monitor well to make themselves feel better about their purchase or are most monitors out there nowadays really that good?
I found this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236028 Seems like a good price and of course it got good reviews but if anyone has any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks! |

I am not familiar with that monitor, here is a review I found http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors...-32783388.html which seems positive
From CNET: "Resolution: Make sure you are comfortable with an LCD's native resolution before you buy it. Remember, an LCD that scales its image to a nonnative resolution will never look as good. " I just helped a neighbor with his new PC - he thought he could just swap CAT5 cable between machines and have internet work- anyway - when I asked about the monitor. Seems he liked the 800*600 resolution but the native one was 1440 * something. After changing it up it went from a muddy mush to crystal clarity - I did have to change the fonts and icons to as large as they could be which was exactly where he needed it.

Yeah 1680x1050 seems a little less than the 1600x1200 that I run most things at. But not a huge trade-off. Thanks for the input.
Also, your friend uses 800x600? wow...I hope he's not a gamer! hehe |

Wow...I am so sorry for your friend. hehe...anyway I went ahead and ordered the monitor. All the reviews were glowing and there were like 80 of them on Newegg. Thanks for the link to the professional review.

That is a very good monitor! Have a local shop that sells that model and the return/issue rate is almost nonexistent. Asus is tending to be marketing good stuff these days.

Awesome good to know. Yeah ASUS seems to make some pretty great stuff. Half of my computer is made by them.
