Complete loss of sound on computer

I have just realized that when the folks moved this computer from one room to another, they mistakenly misconnected the RC plugs into the back of the remote speakers. It appears that they were hooked up sending the powered signal back into the audio jack at the back of the computer.

I was told that once they had it hooked up, it had very poor audio and lots of crackling and static, an attempt was made to turn up the volumn on the speakers and total loss of sound is now had.

I tried another know good speaker set and still no sound.

I added the system information at the bottom of the page, concerning the motherboard.

Is it possible to add a sound card into an empty slot if there is one available?

Does this motherboard have it's own built in sound card as part of the motherboard itself?

Is any of this possible? I have included documents of what the computer has, motherboard etc.

If switching the speakers to the correct outlet didn't fix the problem it's possible they fried the on-board sound.
But first check the settings to see the audio didn't mute then go into Device Manager and look for the yellow mark next to Sound Controllers.
You can try un-installing and re-installing the drivers for the on board sound but, if that won't work, un-install drivers for the on-board and disable on board audio in the bios.

A Creative Audigy SE sound card (pci) should be all you need to get the audio back once you install the drivers for it.

Since your guys are running XP you won't have any driver problems.
