Sound issue with Audigy

I am having this issue again, and can't figure out how it triggers. What happens is if say, I'm playing a video in media player classic, and turn the volume slider down to any level other than 100%, pause it, and then resume. the volume slider will stay in the same spot, but the actual volume from the speakers shoots up to 100%. If I just click the volume slider where it is, it will go back down to where it is supposed to be. Now if I use the volume sliders in the speaker icon on the tray, it will stay where I put it. I also have no sound at all in WMP. Would this be a driver problem, or hardware? I'm assuming driver. This all started a few years ago, used to all work fine. I've reinstalled windows a few times since, but still the same thing. I've updated soundcard drivers, and still, same thing. Would getting a different card fix this issue? Thanks.
