PC Freeze, Horizontal lines.

Hi, I recently built a new PC.
Every once in a while in games(cs,css, portal,RF,SRO,etc) RANDOMly my PC freezes, and These weird horizontal lines appear in the color of what was on the screen before it froze.

I thought maybe it might be the GPU? my drivers are up to date.
I use HWmonitor and the temps are at MOST these:
CPU:56°C
GPU:69°C
HDD:54°C

my build is:
Asus P5Q SE Plus
Intel C2D E8400 @ default
G.SKiLL 4GB(2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz
PNY 9800GTX+ 512MB
Antec 850W PSU
WD 500GB 7200RPM 3GB/s
All in a Antec900 case, and win XP 32-bit OS(SP3)

I have no clue what might be causing it, but within the 3 weeks I had this PC, it happaned 3 times. All while gaming(first in cs, then portal, then in cs again) and cs 1.6 REALLY isn't something that should overheat the GPU

Thank you very much for any help in advance.

Hmm. Those are all steam games I believe. Have you checked to see if they have any updates or patches available?

Might want to try older drivers, or beta drivers as well.

I looked at some older drivers, but looking at the change logs it seems that I will have much more problems with older drivers. It does seem that this is a GPU problem right?

I want to see if this keep happening, if it does I want to put in my old 7600GT from my old PC. then we would know if it's the GPU or something else.

It sounds like either a driver problem, game problem, or a video card problem.

Changing those should lead to the answer. If it happens with different drivers, then most likely not a driver problem. If it happens with different games, then not a game problem. Next would be to try a different video card.
