Exclamation Drivers? Help!

I just did a fresh install of windows xp, and im trying to get all the drivers together, because my screen resolution and color quality are stuck at the lowest settings. It has the option the change them to higher quality settings but when i do, nothing happens. I have a Sony Viao "PCV-2200", which i think is also know as a "PCV-RS100". Im using a Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller, and on my device manager it says its working fine, but clearly its not. Also, for my monitor on my device manager it has a small yellow exclamation mark next to it. and it says,

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."

So i downloaded the driver from the manufactures website ( its a Sceptre, if that helps) and when i try to install it by using have disk, it just pretty much immediately gives me an error saying that it could not install driver, system cannot find file. something along that line. SOMEONE please help! I'm so tired of being stuck in this low quality mode

You can get all the proper drivers for your model over at the Sony web site, Sony eSupport.

Go here : http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/sel...IRECTOR=DRIVER

This is for the PCV RS100 : http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...d=1#div_pos_54

This is for the 220 ( I think you made a typo in the original post) : http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...20&region_id=1

Check again and make sure you've got the right model and then download the drivers from Sony e Support.

edit : If you downloaded the correct driver for you monitor to your computer then you only need to double click on the execute to install it.
It's usually I good idea to create a folder to hold your downloaded drivers.

tried that, and reset the computer. After resetting it after the windows load screen it would just freeze at a black screen, and i had to repeaditly reset it before it got past that. Now it says the driver is working, but when i try to change my resolution or quality nothing happens. I click apply, nothing. then i click ok, nothing. then when i open it again its set back to the lower quality settings.what do i do???

and it wasnt a typo. thats what it says on the back

Have you installed the motherboard chipset drivers?

You have a clean (and updated with SP3 ?) install of XP but it sounds as if you just tried to install one driver.
You don't just install one driver you have to install the whole set.

Monitor drivers require video drivers as well and those drivers in turn rely on the motherboard (chipset) drivers.

The monitor should not need a driver - standard plug and play should be good enough.
