Nero 9 can make DVD. You can update your Nero 6 to 9 : http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero9.html

Nero 6 can make DVD's just fine. Updating from 6 to 9 is not free and 9 is getting pretty bloated.

Of the different Nero versions I've tried I like 7 the most. It seems most functional with streamlined features without the bloat of 9. I haven't used 8 but I would stay away from the latest versions of Nero. They aren't any more functional and run 10x slower on my PC, but they will all make DVD's for you.

I use VSO's ConvertXToDVD for converting .avi or TS files to burn movies to DVDs that will work on my DVD player. Never burned a coaster so far, so I highly recommend it.

DVD Flick is handy. It allows you to convert the video and create a simple DVD menu.

I second that recommendation.
