Newb>>>how do you copy from VCD to HD then back to CD-R/DVD?

Im trying to make copies of some educational video. They were burned as VCD and I want to put as much of them as possible onto 1 DVD.

I have Nero 6.6 Ultra Ed and only one DVD-RAM. I have zero experience in this sort of burning. My only approach is from VCD to HD then back onto DVD.

Also, I would like to keep 1 or 2 of the tracks in my HD for later viewing. Does that means I have to convert anything??

Halp n' thanks

Do any of those VCDs have copy protection?
What file format do they use ?

Open the VCD in Windows Explorer, unhide file extensions. What's on it?

Well, Exploring the CD yields like 5 folders, labeled as follow:

CDI
EXT
MPEGAV
SEGMENT
VCD

None of the files w/in them are readable, for me art least.

I would use the freeware IsoBuster 1.5 (http://www.dvhardware.net/software/58). At least the part of IsoBuster you need is free. Extract the mpeg file from the mepgavi folder. Once the mpg file is extracted, use Nero Vision 4 to make a DVD. Also, you can use the freeware DVD Fick to convert. DVD Flick might be easier to use.

OK uh, after extracting all the files I realized that they only take up to about 2 Gig. That's too low to put in a DVD so I changing to VCD instead.

Just burn w/ Nero VCD option??

Edit:
OK, I tried anyway. DVD player couldnt play it back. Said something about disc is not playback.

DVDs use VOB files. When you turn those mpeg files into VOB, you'll find that you will actually need a little bit of compression because you will be over the 2 hr limit.

If the DVD players support raw mpeg files, then just burn the files as DATA in their own folders.

Thanks for the welcome back!!! Been hiding out for a few years. My computer tanked after six years and had to build a new one.

Guys...

That VOB conversion process, they called it "authoring" or something, what is a good program that I could use to do that??

I dont think burning 1.8 gig into a 4.7 gig capacity dvd-r is efficient, so Im changing it to CD-R instead. Do I just burn the .MPG files into the CD-R into VCD via Nero 6.6???

Also, I burnt one for experiment. A have a cheap Managvox dvd player that doesnt even recognize the vcd, while a cheap cd-writer in a HP machine does w/ k-lite. The dvd player's fault or my burn??

So what? Blank DVD's are almost as cheap as blank CD's these days. If you want to burn VIDEOS, use the medium that's designed for it for best compatibility with standalone players.

Stand alone DVD players usually have a list of what they will, or won't, work with.
You use what ever disk/format the player accepts if you want to use it.

Oh ok, dvd it is then

Well, I used IsoBuster and that website to convert all the files on the VCDs to MPG. Now in order to burn them via Nero 6.6 to a DVD-R, do I need to author (website called it that) it first into VOB format? and a program to do that that's user-friendly any one knows??
