ATI card problems
well it seems my video card cannot play youtube videos or even video files sometimes without completely glitching out my screen with little lines and moving colors. I know its the cards lack of hardware acceleration but i don't know how to fix it, its an ATI Radeon 2900 HD and ive experienced problems trying to play older games that used HW acceleration(and the same type of glitch) but its become unbearable i find myself restarting more often then the amount of videos i watch. Ive had the same prob on xp 32bit, and 64bit and vista 64bit, and yet i can run crysis on high at 50 - 60 fps. does anyone know of a fix i am currently running xp 64bit.
Here is a link to what the Glitch looks like i took a few snapshots http://community.webshots.com/album/573780008UVwDPu (note that sometimes it works and plays the video fullscreen but it fails and glitches like this more often) hope some1 can help, thanks. |

Start>Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Troubleshoot
Enable Hardware Acceleration and remember to check the box next to Write Combining. If you don't have the latest Catalyst Drivers (and the latest .NET installed as well) do that also. If you don't get any improvement then make sure the card isn't over-heating (Death to dust bunnies!) and if it's not that you'll need a new card.

Now that is interesting.
My, less than major (see sig), card has no YouTube problems. So you're right and the problem may not be your video card but your LAN ( and what is your browser?) . As a reference point, I've used FireFox since 2004 and "IE TAB" (and it is updated, also Java is updated.) so what have you not updated ? What downloads/extensions/add-ons are you missing ? What browser and what add-ons /extensions ? |

well i'm using firefox and the only add-ons that im using are
-avg security toolbar -avg safe search -Microsoft.network framework assistant 1.0 i also have IE 32bit which the same glitches happen on and IE64bit which doesn't play videos on youtube due to flashplayer i think. as for what i have missing, not a clue i didn't think i needed anything else besides flashplayer. |

Open Tools in Fire Fox and click on Add-Ons then go to Plug-Ins.
You should see, Windows Media , Quicktime and Shockwave flash as well as plug-ins for Windows Media Player DRM for Netscape and for WMP dynamic link library . You should also see a list of Java plug-ins. What on your list ? |

id loive to tell you, but i just recently installed win 7 on a seperate Hard drive and for some reason locked my xp 64bit down so hard that i can only see the desktop when i boot, but now using win7, Youtube videos aswell as downloaded videos have not glitched once. So it must be some sort of plugin i installed the second i get xp back up and running i will let you know.
Thanks again Last edited by BawllaStyles; 08-10-2009 at 01:55 PM. |
