overdrive gone from catlyst control centr,

I hasve a X1950XT ATI. I used the Overdrive option in the CCC (catylst control center) for a few games. All the sudden, the overdrive option in the graphic's settings is gone! There two days ago. Didn't change anything that I can think of.
I tried a system restore-no go!
I read that ATI Smart had to be started in services for it to work. But when I try to start it I get a message that it will not start because some services that have no work to do will shut off (or not start in this case), so I need to learn more about that, but I am dubious that it is the problem.

Any ideas?

Finally, note that some ATI graphics cards don't come with OverDrive capability. If you believe you should be seeing the OverDrive tab in the Control Center but it's not there, remember that the ATI Hotkey Poller service needs to be set to Automatic (See Tidying Up section), and if necessary contact ATI Technical Support for more help.

If nothing else will work try re-installing the CCC.

Thank you Pam,
I just turned on the ATI Hotkey Poller service. As it was disabled.
I know that the overdrive works because It worked a couple weeks ago.
Thanks you for the help

Pam

Turned out it was the ATI Hotkey Poller service. For some reason when I turned it on from msconfig/servises it would not stay on after a reboot, but when I set it to auto in the services
window in admin tools it stayed on and so did the ATI Overdrive.
What kicks it off I have no idea.
Thank you
B

That would be a negitive Pam.
Since you seem to know your stuff, what drivers are you using for windows 7? and does CCC work with 7?
Thanks again

PS: Its kind of funny how few ppl knew the ATI Hotkey Poller answer. I looked around quite a bit before finding an answer. Just a thought.

Here's a nice review about what ATI did with drivers for Win 7 : http://www.rage3d.com/articles/catal.../index.php?p=1
I've been asking my customers who use the Win 7 beta to keep their drivers updated and, so far, no reports of problems with 9.8 .

edit : There have been tech post at Hulu Discussions about problems with drivers and the desktop beta, mostly hardware acceleration problems, that involve nVidia cards but there were also a few about Radeon cards and the CCC so I thought I'd ask.

thanks again

Pam, Thanks once again.
I have been using 7 for awhile now but have not had success with the ATI CCC.
The drivers themself have been working fine.
For what its worth, I really like 7, and I detested vista.
