New to TV tuner technology

Hello all...

I was thinking about putting a TV tuner card into an old reliable comp so it would replace my TiVo.

My question is this: Are there any benefits or advantages to have a comp with a TV tuner card instead of a TiVo box? is there a subscription fee associated with this type of service like TiVo has?

Any input or links would be appreciated

Thanx all...

Driver support sometimes gets spotty with certain brands as years go by.

It's nice to have your media all in one place, and limitations of storage not being determined by the TiVo box.

You can use all sorts of free and open source DVR software packages. Development has come a long way for DVR software in the past few years.

The thing you'll probably miss most is the TV-guide like feature. I haven't found a free replacement for it, though I haven't looked very hard.
