Need to set up dual mon.

I have an older Compaq Presario x4300 Intel P-4 2.4 Ghz w/ 3 GB RAM, 2 PCI and 1 AGP 4x slots.
Currently running an ATI 9200 series 128 MB card in a PCI slot. It looks like it has two outputs but I can't tell what the second one is. Maybe DVI?

I need to set up dual monitors for a new job I now have. (Yeah)
I have one Acer x223w 22" LCD and I want to get another of the same and need to drive it for an expanded desktop.

What is the difference between AGP 4x and the 8x cards? will an 8x card work in a 4x slot?
Do I even need a new card or can I use the second output on the existing ATI card?

This is a bit confusing.

Dana

Maybe DVI?
Is it white in color?
If so, it's a second port for a second monitor.

You can use 8x cards in 4x slots, they just run at the 4x speed.

But you don't need a second card. You can just hook the second monitor to the second output on your ATI card.

Thumbs up

Cool, that will save some time. (and $$) The Acer monitor has a DVI capability. At least this one does and I'll get the same one.

Thanks, Dana

Yep, it's white and it looks like it's a DVI port. Has that config. Here's a pic. Sorry for the crappy focus, tight spot back there!

If you have that much dust on the outside of the pc - I'd hate to see the inside

Yep, time for a cleaning! It's strapped into a rack and not that easy to get to. I pull it every three months and clean it out.
